Gavaskar Praises Bumrah Ahead T20 Semifinal

Sunil Gavaskar, the first batter to score over 10,000 runs in Test cricket, has praised Jasprit Bumrah for his exceptional bowling skills and constant improvement. Gavaskar believes Bumrah’s true strength is not just his speed or accuracy, but his ability to evolve and add new tricks to his game.

Speaking ahead of India’s Men’s T20 World Cup semifinal against England at the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday (March 5, 2026), Gavaskar said that India should make the most of Bumrah’s mastery from the very start of the match.

Gavaskar explained, “What makes Jasprit Bumrah special is the small changes he keeps making to his bowling. When he began, he mostly bowled inswingers to right-handed batsmen and outswingers to left-handers. But in England in 2018, he showed he could also move the ball the other way — into left-handers and away from right-handers. Since then, he has added many more variations, like the slow bouncer and the slow yorker. He is always improving.”

He added that Bumrah’s continuous learning and ability to surprise batsmen make him a dangerous bowler in all formats of cricket. Gavaskar said that in high-pressure games like the T20 World Cup semifinals, using Bumrah’s skills effectively early in the innings can give India a strong advantage.

Fans and cricket experts alike are excited to see Bumrah in action, as his evolution over the years has made him one of the most versatile and unpredictable bowlers in world cricket. Gavaskar’s comments highlight the importance of planning and strategy in using a bowler’s strengths to control the game from the start.
