Former Indian cricket star Sunil Gavaskar believes Pakistan may change its decision to boycott the group-stage match against India in the ICC World T20 World Cup.
Gavaskar said Pakistani players have a history of making U-turns in cricket. He noted that players have often come back from retirement or reversed earlier decisions. Because of this, he thinks Pakistan might reconsider and decide to play the match against India.
Speaking about the situation, Gavaskar said, “I think in the next few days, when reactions start coming from around the world and from former Pakistani players, there is a chance they will change their decision. Pakistan players have set examples in the past by coming back from retirement. Something similar might happen before February 15.”
He also added that international pressure and reactions from former players could influence Pakistan’s choice. Gavaskar seems confident that fans may still get to watch the highly anticipated India-Pakistan match in the tournament.
The India-Pakistan game is always one of the most watched and talked about matches in world cricket. Gavaskar’s comments suggest there is still hope for cricket fans to see the two teams face each other in Sri Lanka.
