In the Women’s Premier League (WPL) cricket tournament, Gujarat Giants registered a strong 45-run victory over UP Warriorz in a league-stage match held at the BCA Stadium in Vadodara last night. The win helped Gujarat Giants gain important points in the competition.
After being asked to bat first, Gujarat Giants scored 153 runs for the loss of eight wickets in their 20 overs. Sophie Devine played a key role with the bat, scoring a solid half-century. She made 50 runs and helped her team post a competitive total.
Chasing a target of 154 runs, UP Warriorz struggled from the beginning. Their batters could not build partnerships and kept losing wickets at regular intervals. The team was bowled out for just 108 runs in 17.3 overs, falling well short of the target. Phoebe Litchfield was one of the few batters to fight back, scoring 32 runs.
Gujarat’s bowlers performed well, with Rajeshwari Gayakwad leading the attack. She picked up three important wickets and controlled the run flow. For her excellent bowling performance, she was named the Player of the Match.
With this win, Gujarat Giants strengthened their position in the league, while UP Warriorz will look to bounce back in their upcoming matches.
