Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Anupriya Patel said that
India’s healthcare system has seen major improvement in the last eleven years under
the Narendra Modi government.
She said the government has worked to strengthen healthcare at every level, from
local health centres to large hospitals. Speaking at the 7th Convocation Ceremony
of Vardhman Mahavir Medical College and Safdarjung Hospital in New Delhi, she said
the main goal is to make good-quality healthcare affordable and available to all people.
The Minister said the government is running many schemes to help poor and needy
families with medical expenses. She added that more than 62 crore people now receive
free health insurance cover of up to ₹5 lakh under the Ayushman Bharat–PMJAY scheme,
which is the largest health insurance programme in the world.
