Five people, including two tourists from the Czech Republic, were killed after a helicopter crashed on Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, authorities said on Thursday.
The accident happened on Wednesday near Camp Barafu, about 4,700 metres above sea level. Tanzania’s aviation authority confirmed that all five people on board the helicopter died in the crash.
Officials said the exact cause of the accident is not yet known, and an investigation has been started.
Earlier in June, the European Union had placed all Tanzanian air transport companies on its high-risk list after several accidents. The EU said this was due to a lack of trained staff, poor monitoring of flight operations, and failure to meet international safety standards.
