Indian boxer Lovlina Borgohain created history on Friday by winning her first Asian Games gold medal in the women’s 75kg category. She defeated China’s Bao Ziyi with a convincing 5-0 victory, delivering a dominant performance in the final.
The triumph marks an important milestone in Lovlina’s career and Indian boxing. She became only the second Indian woman since 2014 to win an Asian Games gold medal in women’s boxing, after legendary boxer M.C. Mary Kom.
Lovlina had previously won a silver medal at the previous edition of the Asian Games. The boxer from Assam also came close to winning gold at the Commonwealth Games but missed out on the top prize.
Determined to bounce back, Lovlina produced an impressive performance at the Asian Games and controlled the final against Bao Ziyi from start to finish. Her technical ability, confidence and consistency helped her secure a comfortable unanimous decision.
The gold medal is a major achievement for Lovlina and further establishes her as one of India’s leading boxers. Her success is also expected to inspire a new generation of Indian athletes to aim for greater achievements on the international stage.
