A 23-year-old man with a criminal background was brutally hacked to death by a gang in the early hours of Monday, January 12, 2026, at the Government Kilpauk Medical College Hospital (KMC) in Chennai. The attack took place in the waiting area near the maternity ward, where the victim was standing at the time.
Police said the murder was the result of previous enmity between the victim and the attackers. The gang allegedly followed him into the hospital and attacked him using sharp weapons, causing severe injuries. He died on the spot before doctors could provide medical help.
The victim was identified as Adhi, a resident of Mahatma Gandhi Nagar in Kolathur. According to police records, he was a history-sheeter with more than seven criminal cases pending against him. These included serious charges such as murder and attempt to murder.
After the incident, the hospital area was cordoned off, and police teams rushed to the spot. A detailed investigation has been launched, and special teams have been formed to trace and arrest the attackers, who fled the scene after the murder.
Police are also checking CCTV footage from the hospital premises to identify the suspects and understand how the gang managed to carry out the attack inside a government hospital. Further investigation is under way.
