At least 55 people have died in a large fire that swept through public housing
apartments in the Tai Po area of Hong Kong, and more than 270 people are still
missing. Officials said on Thursday morning that the fire was under control in
four of the seven buildings, and they hoped to stop the remaining fires by
evening.
As the fires slowly reduce, people are now asking how the blaze started and who
is responsible. Three construction company officials have been arrested on
suspicion of manslaughter. They are accused of using flammable materials, such
as mesh and plastic sheets, which may have helped the fire spread quickly.
