Hong Kong Fire Leaves Many Dead and Missing

A fire in a Hong Kong apartment complex has killed 94 people. More than 280
people are still missing, and officials say the numbers may rise because many
people are still trapped inside. A total of 76 people were injured, with 15 in
critical condition and 28 seriously hurt.

A government spokesperson said firefighters are still checking the last few
apartments in all seven towers to make sure no more people are inside.

Thick smoke is still coming out of some apartments in the Wang Fuk Court
complex, a group of tall buildings in the Tai Po district, where thousands
of people live. Flames are still visible in some places, and rescue work is
still going on in several towers.

The fire began in bamboo scaffolding and construction netting, then quickly
spread to seven of the eight buildings in the complex. Fires in four buildings
have been brought under control. About 900 people have been moved to temporary
shelters.
