How Hyrox is Building a Fitness Business in India

Hyrox, a fitness race that combines running with demanding gym exercises, is becoming increasingly popular in India. The sport is attracting people from different backgrounds, including young fitness enthusiasts, professionals, entrepreneurs and parents looking for new ways to stay healthy.

Sameeha Mariam, a 24-year-old content creator and law student from Chennai, started running around three years ago as a way to deal with professional frustrations. What began as a personal activity gradually introduced her to several other forms of fitness, including swimming, cycling, marathons and triathlons.

Her interest eventually led her to Hyrox, a fitness competition that combines running with functional exercises. Sameeha has participated in two Hyrox events so far. Her experience with the sport also influenced her work as a content creator, with her videos increasingly focusing on training, races and fitness.

In Mumbai, 44-year-old entrepreneur and father Varun Duggirala also turned to Hyrox, but for a different reason. He wanted to improve his strength and endurance so that he could stay healthy and be physically active while caring for his daughter.

Varun initially registered for a Hyrox event almost on a whim. However, he soon became serious about his preparation and trained for 34 weeks. He eventually completed the race in less than two and a half hours. His daughter also took part in his fitness journey by timing him during one of his events.

Hyrox is gaining attention in India as more people look beyond traditional gym workouts and set specific fitness goals. A typical Hyrox race combines running with exercises such as sled pushes, rowing and other functional movements. Since the race follows a standardized format, participants can compare their performances with athletes from different parts of the world.

Hyrox was launched in India in 2025 and has seen rapid growth. Its first event in Mumbai attracted around 1,650 participants, while the Bengaluru event drew more than 8,200 participants. The growing interest has also created commercial opportunities, including merchandise partnerships with brands such as Puma and sponsorships from companies such as Masters’ Union.

The sport is also entering a competitive fitness market that includes CrossFit and other forms of functional training. Hyrox’s standardized race structure and international events give participants a clear way to measure their progress. The company behind Hyrox, Yoska, is also testing new formats such as No Parking to bring the sport to a wider audience.

India’s fitness industry is changing as boutique fitness centres, endurance sports and functional training become more popular. Hyrox is looking to build on this trend and expand its presence to 15 Indian cities.

However, expansion also comes with challenges, particularly the need for suitable indoor venues that can accommodate large numbers of participants and specialized equipment. Despite these challenges, Hyrox continues to attract attention through its international race format, social media presence and growing community.

With more than 100 events held globally each year, Hyrox is becoming a recognizable name in modern fitness. Its growing participation in India shows how people are increasingly choosing structured challenges and competitive experiences as part of their fitness routines.
