WASHINGTON (AP) — Hunter Goodman hit his 35th homer of the season during his return from a shoulder injury, helping the Colorado Rockies end their seven-game losing streak. The Rockies defeated the Washington Nationals 3-1 on Tuesday night.
Mason Adams, making his major league debut, pitched into the fifth inning and earned his first career victory in relief. Jordan Romano saved the game for his 13th save of the season.
The Nationals’ only score came from Daylen Lile’s homer off Adams in the fourth inning. Colorado pitchers kept Washington’s offense in check, allowing just one run over six innings.
Andrew Alvarez started for the Rockies and allowed three runs in 4 2/3 innings. He struck out six batters but walked two.
Goodman, who had been out since early August, led off the fourth inning with a solo homer. Connor Norby added an RBI double later in the same inning to give Colorado a 2-1 lead.
In the fifth inning, Jordan Beck scored from second base after a wild pitch by Tanner Gordon. The Rockies’ two-run lead was briefly threatened when Lile tied the game with his homer, but Colorado’s defense held firm.
The Rockies acquired Adams in a recent trade and he pitched well in his debut. He allowed one run and three hits over four innings, striking out five batters.
Colorado will send Tanner Gordon to the mound on Wednesday night as they look to continue their winning streak. The Nationals had not announced their starter for the game.
