India’s strong performance in the ongoing T20I series against Afghanistan has resulted in several changes in the latest ICC men’s T20I rankings. India have already taken a 2-0 lead in the three-match series, with their performances helping several players improve their positions.
Ishan Kishan continues to hold the No. 1 position among men’s T20I batters. His India teammate Abhishek Sharma has moved up to second place. The two Indian batters are separated by 51 rating points.
Kishan moved to the top of the rankings earlier this year following India’s series against Ireland. He also made an important contribution during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, scoring 317 runs at an impressive strike rate.
Abhishek Sharma’s latest rise in the rankings came after his strong performance against Afghanistan. He scored 82 runs in the opening match of the series, helping India secure a comfortable victory. His performance allowed him to move above Pakistan batter Sahibzada Farhan in the rankings.
Sanju Samson has also benefited from his excellent performance in the second T20I. Samson scored a quick 57 from just 22 balls as India chased Afghanistan’s target in only 14.5 overs. His aggressive innings helped India win the match by seven wickets.
There were also changes among India’s bowlers. Varun Chakravarthy moved up to fifth place in the T20I bowling rankings, while Jasprit Bumrah climbed to 10th. Arshdeep Singh made one of the biggest improvements, moving up 11 places to 14th.
All-rounder Axar Patel also gained six places and moved to 27th in the bowling rankings. The movement reflects the contributions made by India’s players during the series.
India will play the third and final T20I against Afghanistan in Delhi on September 17. With India already leading the series 2-0, the final match will give the team an opportunity to complete a series sweep and provide valuable playing time to other members of the squad.
