India Likely to Tour Sri Lanka for Two Tests in August

Team India is set to visit Sri Lanka for a two-match Test series in August as part of the 2025-27 World Test Championship. The exact dates remain undecided, but the matches are scheduled between 15th and 27th August.

The report highlights uncertainty regarding the three T20Is initially planned for the tour. These Tests will take place after the Lanka Premier League concludes on 9th August. All parties involved, including India’s team, have been informed about the available window for the series.

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia recently visited Sri Lanka as part of an ICC delegation to assess the situation at Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), which was dissolved by the government. Consequently, a Transformation Committee has been appointed to manage cricket operations in Sri Lanka.

Saikia might discuss details about the Test series with the committee, but planning the T20I series could be challenging due to India’s packed schedule in September. This includes tours of Bangladesh and West Indies.

India’s tour to Bangladesh was originally planned for 2025 but was postponed due to political tensions. These tensions escalated so much that Bangladesh boycotted the 2026 T20 World Cup, refusing to play in India.

Following their Bangladesh series—if it proceeds—India will face the West Indies at home from September 27th to October 17th. This schedule may clash with the Asian Games in Japan from September 25th to October 3rd.

Additionally, India has a T20I series against Afghanistan in the UAE in September. Post-IPL, they will host Afghanistan for one Test and three ODIs. They also have matches against Ireland and England later in the year, along with a tour of Zimbabwe in July before their Sri Lanka visit.
