India secured a convincing 40-run victory over Bangladesh in the semi-final of the Women’s Asia Cup 2026 in Dubai, booking their place in the final. The victory continued India’s impressive run in the tournament, with Harmanpreet Kaur’s team remaining unbeaten after winning all their matches so far.
Bangladesh won the toss and decided to bowl first, hoping to put early pressure on the Indian batters. India suffered an early setback when opener Smriti Mandhana was dismissed. However, Shafali Verma played a crucial innings and helped India recover from the early loss.
Shafali scored an important 64 runs and provided the stability India needed. She attacked the Bangladesh bowlers when opportunities came and helped keep the scoreboard moving. Richa Ghosh and Deepti Sharma also made useful contributions towards the end of the innings.
India eventually finished their 20 overs at 149/6, setting Bangladesh a target of 150 runs to reach the final. Although the target was not extremely high, India’s strong bowling attack made the chase difficult for Bangladesh.
Bangladesh struggled to build partnerships during their innings. India’s spin bowlers created constant pressure and made it difficult for the Bangladeshi batters to score freely. Deepti Sharma was the standout bowler, taking three important wickets and playing a major role in India’s victory.
Bangladesh managed to score only 109/7 in their 20 overs. They fell 40 runs short of India’s total, giving India a comfortable victory and a place in the tournament final.
India will now face either Sri Lanka or Pakistan in the final on Sunday. The Indian team will be aiming to win the Women’s Asia Cup for the eighth time. India have already won the tournament seven times, including the first edition in 2004.
With their unbeaten record still intact, India will enter the final with plenty of confidence. The team will now look to maintain its strong form and finish the tournament by lifting the Asia Cup trophy once again.
