India Must Return to Strongest XI: Ponting

New Delhi: Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting has said that India must stop overthinking player match-ups and quickly return to selecting their strongest playing XI if they want to stay alive in the T20 World Cup.

Ponting’s comments came after India suffered a heavy 76-run defeat to South Africa in the Super 8 stage of the tournament. The loss has put India under pressure, making their next match a must-win situation.

Speaking about India’s performance, Ponting said the team management should focus on picking the best available players instead of making too many changes based on specific opponents. He suggested that constant changes in the playing XI can affect team balance and confidence.

India are now preparing for a crucial match against Zimbabwe in Chennai. A win in this game is necessary to keep their hopes of reaching the semifinals alive. Ponting urged the team to stay calm, back their key players, and play with clarity and confidence.

He also pointed out that in big tournaments, successful teams usually stick to a settled combination and trust their core players. According to him, India have enough talent, but they need to make simple decisions and avoid unnecessary experimentation.

With the tournament entering a decisive phase, India will be under pressure to deliver a strong performance in their upcoming match. Fans will be hoping the team can bounce back quickly and keep their World Cup campaign on track.
