India has rejected the proposed Pakistan-China Joint Boundary Commission, saying Pakistan does not have the legal authority to make agreements concerning territories that India claims as its own. The Ministry of External Affairs said the initiative has no legal basis from India’s perspective.
India said there is no recognised India-Pakistan boundary in the areas of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh that Pakistan can negotiate with another country. New Delhi maintains that these territories are an integral part of India.
The Indian government has also consistently rejected the 1963 China-Pakistan boundary agreement. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, India does not recognise the agreement and considers it illegal and invalid.
India has therefore opposed any move that it says could alter the status of territories it claims or give legal recognition to Pakistan’s control over parts of Jammu and Kashmir. New Delhi has called on Pakistan to withdraw from areas that India says are under its illegal occupation.
The dispute reflects the long-standing territorial disagreements involving India, Pakistan and China. India has maintained this position for decades, including in official statements regarding the 1963 China-Pakistan agreement.
