India has been ranked third in the Asia Power Index 2025, while the U.S. is
first and China is second. The rankings were released by the Lowy Institute,
an Australian think tank that studies how countries in Asia influence the world
around them.
The report shows that both India and China improved their scores, but there is
still a big gap between the two countries. A key highlight is that India’s
strength has been steadily increasing, and in 2025, it is expected to cross
the level needed to be considered a major power in Asia.
This is the seventh edition of the Asia Power Index. It measures the power of
27 countries and territories using 131 indicators under eight categories.
These include military strength, economic power, diplomatic and cultural
influence, defence partnerships, resilience, and future resources.
