India strongly responded to Pakistan at the 61st Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), which is being held in Geneva from February 23 to March 31. During the meeting, India accused Pakistan of spreading false information and propaganda about Jammu and Kashmir.
Representing India at the session, Anupama Singh used the country’s “Right to Reply” to reject the allegations made by Pakistan and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). She said India completely rejects the claims and described Pakistan’s repeated statements as baseless and driven by jealousy.
Ms. Singh reiterated India’s long-standing position that Jammu and Kashmir was, is, and will always remain an integral and inseparable part of India. She said that the only real issue regarding the region is what India calls the illegal occupation of Indian territory by Pakistan.
Highlighting development in the region, the Indian representative said that Jammu and Kashmir has seen significant progress in recent years. She pointed out that the Union Territory’s development budget is more than double the recent financial assistance package that Pakistan sought from the International Monetary Fund (IMF). According to her, this comparison shows the difference between the growth taking place in Jammu and Kashmir and Pakistan’s current economic challenges.
India’s remarks came during the high-level segment of the UNHRC session, where member countries discuss human rights issues and respond to concerns raised by other nations. The exchange once again reflected the ongoing diplomatic tensions between India and Pakistan over Jammu and Kashmir.
The session in Geneva continues, with several countries presenting their views on global human rights matters.
