India to Host 2030 Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad

India’s plan to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games is set to be officially approved today at the Commonwealth Sport’s General Assembly in Glasgow. This is a major step in India’s goal to become a global hub for multi-sport events.

India last hosted the Games in 2010 in Delhi. The 2030 Games will be held in Ahmedabad, a city that has upgraded its sports facilities over the past ten years.

The General Assembly will confirm the recommendation made by the Commonwealth Sport’s Board. This followed an evaluation by the Commonwealth Sport’s Evaluation Committee, which assessed cities on infrastructure, athlete experience, governance, technical readiness, and alignment with Commonwealth Sport values.

India’s bid competed with Abuja, Nigeria. However, Nigeria has been offered the chance to host the 2034 Games instead, after receiving support to strengthen its hosting plans.

India will present its vision for the Ahmedabad Games, and a special broadcast moment will follow the confirmation of the approval.
