The United States has said that its long-paited trade deal with India
could be finalised by the end of this year. According to a report by ANI,
the latest round of India–US trade talks saw “many positive developments,”
especially after the US under President Donald Trump softened its earlier
tough stand on India buying oil from Russia.
A senior US official said that Washington is working with New Delhi on two
main issues — a fair, two-way trade agreement and resolving concerns about
India’s purchase of Russian oil.
The official said, “We have seen a lot of positive progress recently.
We are working on both a reciprocal trade deal and the Russian oil issue,
where the situation has improved.”
He added that discussions are moving forward at an “encouraging” pace and
may show results “before the end of the year.”
The official also said that although progress has been good, “there is
still a lot of work to do.”
