Indian Army Chief Holds Talks in Sri Lanka

India’s Chief of the Army Staff, General Upendra Dwivedi, continued his high-level meetings on the first day of his official visit to Sri Lanka. During the visit, he met Sri Lanka’s political and military leaders and highlighted the strong and growing defence cooperation between the two countries. His visit will conclude tomorrow.

While speaking to faculty members and student officers at Sri Lanka’s Defence Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC), General Dwivedi stressed the important role of armed forces in nation-building. He said modern armies must adopt new and advanced technologies to meet future security challenges and improve military operations.

In Colombo, the Indian Army Chief held detailed discussions with Sri Lanka’s Deputy Minister of Defence and the Defence Secretary. The talks focused on strengthening defence cooperation, enhancing humanitarian assistance and disaster relief efforts, and addressing regional security concerns.

General Dwivedi also met the Commander of the Sri Lanka Army. During this meeting, he handed over military vehicles, ambulances, and training simulators as part of India’s support to Sri Lanka’s armed forces. This gesture further strengthened the defence partnership and professional ties between the two armies.

The visit reflects the close relationship between India and Sri Lanka and their shared commitment to peace, security, and cooperation in the region.
