Indian table tennis pairs Harmeet Desai-Yashaswini Ghorpade and Manush Shah-Diya Chitale have reached the mixed doubles quarter-finals at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games after winning their respective Round 3 matches.
Manush Shah and Diya Chitale produced a dominant performance against Maldives’ Ahmed Moosa and Aishath Nazim. The Indian pair won the match 3-0 in just 15 minutes. They took the three games 11-0, 11-7 and 11-6 to book their place in the quarter-finals.
Harmeet Desai and Yashaswini Ghorpade also secured a convincing victory against Hong Kong’s Yiu Kwan To and Ng Wing Lam. The Indian pair won 3-1, taking the first two games 11-6 and 11-5.
The Hong Kong pair fought back in the third game and won it 12-10. However, Harmeet and Yashaswini regained control in the fourth game, winning 11-7 to complete the match and advance to the next round.
The results add to India’s strong performance across several sports at the Asian Games. India’s medal tally stood at 10, including gold medals in cricket, soft tennis and mixed martial arts, along with seven medals from shooting. China was leading the overall medal table at the time.
India also added two bronze medals in shooting. The women’s skeet team of Raiza Dhillon, Parinaaz Dhaliwal and Maheshwari Chauhan finished third with a combined score of 331. The men’s skeet team also secured bronze after winning their shoot-off against Kazakhstan.
Jay Meena created history in soft tennis by winning India’s first Asian Games medal in the sport. He took the bronze medal in the men’s singles event after losing his semi-final match to Japan’s Takuya Kurosaka.
India also recorded a win in women’s kabaddi. The Indian team defeated Iran 37-23 in their Group A match. In boxing, Ankush moved forward in the men’s 80kg category after defeating Bahrain’s Hamsa Vogel.
Indian rowers also made progress in their events. Balraj Panwar qualified for the men’s single sculls final, while Satnam Singh and Salman Khan advanced to the men’s double sculls final. India’s women’s four crew also secured a place in Final A.
There was further progress in canoe and kayak events. India’s men’s kayak four team reached the 500m final, while Megha Pradeep advanced to the women’s canoe single 200m semi-final. Parvathy Geetha and Phairembam Soniya Devi also progressed to the women’s kayak double 500m semi-final.
With the mixed doubles table tennis pairs moving into the quarter-finals, India continues to compete across several disciplines at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, with athletes aiming to add more medals in the remaining events.
