India’s Commerce Minister Leads WTO Talks

Piyush Goyal, India’s Union Minister for Commerce and Industry, is leading the country’s delegation at the 14th Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization (WTO). The conference is being held in Cameroon and started on December 3. It will continue until the 29th of the month.

The WTO Ministerial Conference is an important global meeting where trade ministers from different countries come together to discuss international trade rules, economic issues, and cooperation between nations. Decisions taken at such meetings can affect global markets, trade policies, and economic growth.

During his speech at the conference, Piyush Goyal highlighted the need for fair and inclusive trade reforms. He said that global trade rules should benefit all countries, not just a few. He especially stressed that developing and poorer nations must be supported so they can grow and compete in the global market.

Goyal also spoke about the current global economic challenges, including rising costs, supply chain issues, and economic uncertainty. He said that countries must work together to find solutions that are balanced and fair. According to him, trade policies should be designed in a way that supports growth while protecting the interests of all nations.

He further emphasized that India believes in cooperation and shared progress. He said that strong and fair trade systems can help create jobs, improve economies, and reduce inequality around the world.

India’s participation in the conference shows its active role in global trade discussions. The country is expected to push for reforms that are practical and beneficial for developing economies.

The conference will continue with discussions and negotiations over the coming weeks, with leaders aiming to reach agreements that can improve the global trading system and make it more inclusive for everyone.
