** India’s Energy Supply Is Secure: Minister Assures Public

** On March 6, 2026, Petroleum Minister Hardeep Puri reassured the public that India has no energy shortages. He emphasized the government’s focus on ensuring affordable and sustainable fuel for all citizens. Minister Puri stated that energy consumers in India have nothing to worry about as the country is managing its energy needs effectively despite global challenges. IndianOil, a major state-owned oil company, also dismissed recent social media claims of petrol and diesel shortages. The company confirmed that fuel stocks are sufficient and distribution networks are operating normally. IndianOil urged citizens not to panic or gather at fuel stations unnecessarily. They advised relying only on official information for updates. India’s energy strategy has seen a shift in crude oil imports. In 2022, Russia supplied just 0.2% of India’s crude needs, but this share increased significantly by February 2026 to about 20%. During that month, India imported around 1.04 million barrels per day from Russia. This diversification helps ensure energy security. Regarding liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), the government has taken steps to increase production at refineries across India. This move ensures adequate LPG availability nationwide. Additionally, since January 2026, India has started importing LPG from the United States. A one-year contract signed in November 2025 with U.S. Gulf Coast suppliers covers about 2.2 million metric tons per annum for the year 2026. These measures highlight India’s proactive approach to securing energy supplies and maintaining stability during uncertain times. The government continues to monitor global markets and adapt strategies to meet domestic demands without causing disruptions.
