India’s hopes of making a comeback in the FIH Men’s Pro League ended after they lost 0–2 to Spain in Hobart on Saturday (February 21, 2026). The defeat continued India’s poor run of form in the tournament.
Spain started the match strongly and took the lead early. Ignacio Abajo scored in the 6th minute, giving his team confidence and putting India under pressure from the beginning. Spain continued to play with discipline, especially in defence, and did not allow India many clear chances to score.
In the second half, Spain increased their advantage when Ignacio Cobos found the net in the 36th minute. His goal made it even more difficult for India to fight back. Despite trying to control possession and create opportunities, India struggled to break through Spain’s well-organised defence.
Spain combined sharp finishing in attack with solid defending throughout the match. India, on the other hand, could not convert their chances and looked out of rhythm.
With this loss, India’s hopes of improving their position in the Pro League have taken a major hit. The team will now need to regroup quickly and work on their weaknesses if they want to bounce back in the remaining matches.
