Both governments are now discussing whether the series can go ahead as planned. If successful, India would tour Bangladesh for a short white-ball series. The final decision will be made by the highest levels of government.
A source quoted in the report says there’s a good chance the series will happen. Cricket could help improve relations between the two nations, and both sides are showing positive interest. The decision is expected to be made soon if everything goes well.
India and Bangladesh have traditionally had friendly relations, but tensions increased after the interim government led by Muhammad Yunus took over following the removal of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. This caused problems in cricket as well.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) released Bangladesh’s Mustafizur Rahman early, leading to Bangladesh barring its team from traveling to India for the T20 World Cup 2026. Scotland stepped in as a replacement.
Under the new Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, relations have started to improve. India has resumed issuing tourist visas to Bangladeshi nationals, and Dinesh Trivedi, India’s High Commissioner to Bangladesh, now holds a Cabinet rank.
