A tense situation between the Delhi Police and the Himachal Pradesh Police ended on Thursday morning (February 26, 2026), after nearly 24 hours of drama. The Delhi Police team was finally allowed to return to the national capital with three Youth Congress activists who had been arrested in connection with the “shirtless protest” during the AI Summit.
The issue began on Wednesday (February 25, 2026), when the Delhi Police arrested three Youth Congress members for staging a protest at the summit. After securing transit remand from a local court — which legally permitted them to take the accused to Delhi — the team started their journey back.
However, while the Delhi Police team was on its way, the Himachal Pradesh Police stopped their vehicles at the Shogi border near Shimla. The state police registered a kidnapping case against the Delhi Police personnel and detained their vehicles. This unexpected move led to a major standoff between the two police forces.
During the 24-hour confrontation, the Delhi Police team was reportedly “detained” for about five hours, despite having court permission to transport the arrested individuals. Senior officers from both sides held discussions to resolve the issue.
After several rounds of talks and legal clarifications, the situation was finally resolved on Thursday morning. The Delhi Police team was cleared to proceed to Delhi with the three activists in custody.
The incident has raised questions about coordination between police forces of different states. Legal experts say such conflicts can create confusion and delay in the legal process, especially when arrests involve interstate action.
With the matter now settled, the focus is expected to shift to the legal proceedings against the three Youth Congress activists in Delhi.
