Interview: Congress Jitters Over DMK’s Growing Influence

With only a few days left for the Assembly elections on April 9, the political situation in Puducherry remains uncertain. While the ruling alliance appears confident, the opposition is still facing challenges in forming a strong and united front.

The alliance between NR Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) looks stable and determined to stay in power. Leaders from both parties have been actively campaigning and showing confidence about winning the elections again.

On the other hand, the opposition alliance is struggling to finalize seat-sharing agreements. Despite the elections being very close, there is still no clear understanding between the parties on how many seats each one will contest. This delay has raised concerns about the opposition’s ability to present a strong challenge to the ruling alliance.

In an interview with South First, Gayatri Srikanth, the state convener of the women’s wing of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) in Puducherry, spoke about the current situation. She explained that alliance talks are still ongoing and that discussions over seat allocation have been difficult.

She also mentioned that the Indian National Congress has certain demands regarding the number of seats it wants to contest. These demands have added to the delay in finalizing the alliance. According to her, all parties are trying to reach a fair agreement, but time is running out.

Gayatri Srikanth said that even though there are challenges, the opposition is working to come together and offer a strong alternative to the ruling alliance. She stressed that unity among opposition parties is important to address public issues and provide better governance.

As the election date approaches, voters in Puducherry are closely watching these developments. The final shape of the alliances will play a key role in deciding the outcome of the elections. For now, while the ruling alliance looks ready, the opposition still has important decisions to make in the coming days.
