Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], April 8 (ANI): Cameron Green is likely to return to his bowling role for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) as they face the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in IPL 2026 at Eden Gardens on Thursday. This move could help KKR, who have been struggling due to multiple injuries.
Green, who hasn’t bowled yet this season, started IPL 2026 as a specialist batsman because of a lower-back injury advised by Cricket Australia. However, after more than 10 days, he is now ready to bowl again in a match.
Cricket Australia had earlier stated that Green needs to avoid bowling for a short period due to his injury but is rebuilding his bowling workload in India and expected to return in about 10-12 days.
KKR’s team has been hit hard by injuries early in the tournament. Key bowlers like Mustafizur Rahman, Harshit Rana, Akash Deep, Sunil Narine, and Varun Chakaravarthy have all been unavailable due to various reasons, leaving the team short on pace options. Green’s absence as a bowling threat has added to their struggles.
His return is seen as a positive step for KKR, who are yet to win this season after two losses and one washout. However, Green’s batting hasn’t been up to par. Despite being the most expensive overseas player bought at ₹25.20 crore in the IPL auction, he has scored only 18, 2, and 4 runs in three innings.
Aaron Finch recently commented on Green’s struggles, suggesting that his lack of confidence might be due to changes in his batting role. He has been tried at positions No. 3 and No. 4 this season but hasn’t performed well.
With his bowling role set to expand, KKR hopes Green can find his rhythm and confidence again, especially in the important match against LSG. (ANI)
