Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) head coach Daniel Vettori has shared an update on skipper Pat Cummins, stating he may return within the next 10-12 days. Cummins missed the 2026 T20 World Cup due to a back injury but has been bowling in nets for SRH. He is yet to receive clearance from Cricket Australia (CA) to play in the IPL.
Vettori praised Cummins’ fitness, noting he has had time to focus on it during his recovery. The main challenge for Cummins has been rebuilding his bowling load. “Once he gets the all-clear from CA, it’s a slow process to build his confidence and strength back,” Vettori said during a press conference.
SRH will start their IPL 2026 campaign against defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in Bengaluru on Saturday. Vettori expressed hope for a clear timeline on Cummins’ return soon.
Meanwhile, Ishan Kishan has been leading SRH as the temporary captain. Vettori highlighted Kishan’s experience and success in the IPL, as well as his leadership skills from leading the U19s and winning the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
Cummins led SRH to the IPL 2024 final but lost to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). He took 18 wickets that season and 16 in IPL 2025, though SRH did not make the playoffs last year after finishing sixth with 13 points.
