The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2027 player auction will be held in Goa in December, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed on September 23. The announcement brings the IPL auction back to India after three consecutive editions were held at overseas locations.
Speaking to ANI, Saikia said the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to host the upcoming auction in Goa. He confirmed the month and location but did not announce the exact date or the venue where the auction will take place.
The previous three auctions were held outside India. Dubai hosted the 2024 auction, Jeddah in Saudi Arabia hosted the 2025 mega auction, and Abu Dhabi hosted the 2026 auction. The 2027 auction will therefore mark the return of the event to Indian soil.
The BCCI had previously faced difficulties in finding a suitable Indian venue because of the busy wedding season around the usual auction period. With Goa now confirmed, the board has decided to bring the event back to India.
India A Women Match Shifted to Mohali
The BCCI has also changed the venue for the upcoming multi-day match between India A Women and Australia A Women. The four-day fixture, scheduled from September 29 to October 2, was originally planned for Dharamshala but has now been shifted to the PCA IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali.
The decision was taken because of prolonged rainfall and unfavorable ground conditions in Dharamshala. The BCCI said the weather had affected the outfield, making it necessary to move the match to another venue to avoid further disruption.
The schedule of the match remains unchanged, with the game set to be played from September 29 to October 2. Mohali is also hosting the three-match One-Day series between India A Women and Australia A Women. The original BCCI schedule had listed the multi-day match for Dharamshala.
India A Women had already started the limited-overs leg of the tour strongly, winning the opening One-Day match against Australia A Women by four wickets while chasing a target of 236 runs.
BCCI Yet to Decide on New Chief Selector
Saikia also spoke about the future of the Indian men’s selection committee following Ajit Agarkar’s decision not to extend his tenure as chairman. Agarkar’s current term is scheduled to end on October 4, 2026.
The BCCI has not yet announced his replacement. Saikia said the board has time to take the decision and will make an official announcement once the process is completed. Recent reports also said BCCI office-bearers have been authorised to take a decision regarding the senior selection committee.
The search for a new chairman comes at an important time for Indian cricket, with the national team continuing its preparations for upcoming international competitions.
Saikia also praised the Indian women’s cricket team for its recent success at the Asian Games in Japan. He expressed hope that the men’s team would also perform strongly in its campaign, with the tournament running from September 28 to October 3.
With the IPL auction returning to India, the BCCI is now expected to announce the exact date and venue for the Goa event at a later stage. The auction will be an important step in preparations for the 2027 IPL season as franchises begin finalising their squads.
