Iran’s Foreign Ministry announced on Monday, November 2, 2026, that it is considering a plan to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within two days if the United States agrees to its demands. Iran had previously proposed a one-week timeline for reopening the important waterway.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei said the new proposal shows Iran’s willingness to resolve the ongoing situation. He explained that Iran could quickly restore security in the Strait of Hormuz if its demands were accepted.
Baqaei also stated that reopening the waterway could help restart negotiations between Iran and the United States. He confirmed that discussions through mediators are still taking place.
Meanwhile, ship traffic through the Strait of Hormuz has fallen to its lowest level in more than two months following a series of attacks. The decline has raised concerns about the safety of ships and the movement of goods through the region.
Iran has accused the United States of carrying out the attacks. Fishermen have also reported finding suspicious items in the water and raised concerns about possible American involvement.
Iran further reported that four tankers caught fire after hitting mines in the Strait of Hormuz. These incidents have increased concerns about maritime safety and the possibility of further disruptions.
The Strait of Hormuz is an important route for global oil transportation. Any prolonged disruption could affect shipping activities, energy supplies and international trade. However, the proposed reopening plan depends on whether Iran and the United States can reach an agreement.
