Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has said that new diplomatic talks with the United States could be possible if Washington changes its current approach toward Iran.
In a statement shared on social media, Araghchi said Iran would be ready to consider negotiations if the US stops using pressure and coercive measures. He said trust, mutual respect, and recognition of Iran’s rights would be important for any future talks.
Araghchi also called on the United States to keep its promises and meet its commitments. According to him, rebuilding trust would be necessary before meaningful discussions between the two countries could begin again.
The Iranian foreign minister also spoke about his recent meetings with Qatar’s prime minister and foreign minister. He described the discussions as productive and creative, suggesting that regional countries could play an important role in supporting diplomatic efforts.
However, the comments from Iran came as US President Donald Trump rejected the possibility of immediate talks with Tehran. Trump suggested that the United States could continue its military actions against Iran and said Iran was under strong economic and military pressure.
Trump argued that the pressure had reduced Iran’s ability to respond. He also made it clear that the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz should not be seen as a sign that the US had ended its military involvement in the region.
The Strait of Hormuz is an important international shipping route through which a large amount of the world’s oil and other energy supplies are transported. Any disruption in the area can create concerns for global energy markets and international trade.
Trump also expressed doubt about whether there was much to discuss with Iran at the moment. He said Washington was not looking for a meeting or negotiations with Tehran, showing a major difference between the positions of the two countries.
At the same time, Trump praised Russia’s behavior regarding the Strait of Hormuz. However, he did not provide specific details about any commitments or actions Russia had taken in connection with Iran.
The latest statements show that Iran and the United States remain far apart on the question of negotiations. While Tehran says diplomacy could be possible if Washington changes its approach, the Trump administration is continuing to emphasize pressure on Iran.
Despite the differences, Iran’s comments leave open the possibility of future diplomatic discussions if conditions change. Regional countries such as Qatar may also have a role in helping both sides communicate and reduce tensions.
For now, however, there is no clear sign of immediate direct talks between Washington and Tehran. The situation remains closely watched because continued tensions between the two countries could have wider effects on security, energy supplies, and stability in the Middle East.
