Israel has announced that it will partially reopen the Rafah border crossing between Gaza and Egypt. This is the first time the crossing has been opened since Israeli forces took control of it in May of last year.

According to local media reports, citing Israeli officials, the border will open on a trial basis. At first, only a limited number of Gaza residents will be allowed to pass through. Authorities say this is a careful way to manage movement while keeping security in place.

The Israeli military agency in charge of aid to Gaza said it is preparing for larger operations at the border. They expect more people from Gaza to start using the crossing soon. The agency is also coordinating with other officials to ensure the process runs smoothly.

The Israeli army said it has completed construction of a special screening facility at Rafah. This facility will check and process Palestinians who enter or leave Gaza through the border. Officials said the facility is part of their plan to manage the flow of people safely and efficiently.

Officials explained that the reopening is meant to allow controlled movement of people while ensuring security. The trial phase will help authorities monitor the situation, identify problems, and improve the process before the crossing is fully reopened for more residents.

The partial reopening comes amid ongoing concerns about humanitarian access in Gaza. Authorities said the move is intended to provide residents with some relief, allowing limited travel for essential reasons such as medical care, work, or family visits.
