Israel has carried out airstrikes on several Hezbollah and Hamas sites in Lebanon. Videos shared online showed large areas of damage and a huge cloud of smoke over the coastal city of Sidon after the strikes yesterday. The attacks continued into this morning. Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency reported that a commercial building in Sidon’s industrial area was destroyed.
The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) said in a statement that the strikes targeted Hezbollah and Hamas locations in different parts of Lebanon. The attacks hit weapons storage facilities and military buildings, both above and below ground, which Hezbollah used to plan attacks against Israeli soldiers and the country.
The IDF also said that Hamas weapons production sites in southern Lebanon were struck. Israel stated that the airstrikes were needed to prevent attacks and protect its citizens and soldiers.
These airstrikes increase tensions between Israel and militant groups in Lebanon and have raised concerns about more violence in the region.
