Jaishankar, Marco Rubio Discuss India-US Cooperation

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar spoke on the phone with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Tuesday, January 13, 2026. The two leaders discussed ways to strengthen cooperation between India and the United States in several key areas.

According to officials, the discussion focused on trade, critical minerals, nuclear energy, and defence cooperation. These areas are seen as important for deepening the strategic partnership between the two countries.

The phone call took place a day after the newly appointed U.S. Ambassador to India, Sergio Gor, said that the two sides would soon be in touch regarding trade-related issues. This indicates that talks between India and the U.S. on economic matters are expected to continue in the coming days.

The conversation reflects ongoing efforts by both countries to expand cooperation and address shared priorities, especially in sectors that are important for economic growth and national security.
