Justice Surya Kant, who has taken part in many major court decisions — including
the ruling on removing Article 370 — was sworn in on Monday as the 53rd Chief
Justice of India (CJI). He replaces Justice B. R. Gavai.
The oath ceremony took place at Rashtrapati Bhavan, where President Droupadi Murmu led the event.

February 9, 2027.

attended the event. The ceremony was an important moment for the Supreme Court,

major constitutional cases.
