Kerala police have made a major breakthrough in their efforts to stop drug trafficking in the state. Nine people have been arrested for allegedly operating a large synthetic drug network. The arrests were made as part of Operation Thunder, a special operation launched under Kerala’s ongoing anti-drug campaign.
According to Excise Minister M Liju, the arrested suspects were allegedly involved in running a large drug trafficking network known as the “KB Cartel.” The group is suspected of supplying large quantities of synthetic drugs to different parts of the country.
Investigators found that the cartel was allegedly trafficking around 20 kilograms of MDMA every month. MDMA, commonly known as ecstasy, is a powerful synthetic drug that is illegal in India. It is often sold illegally at parties and through organised drug networks.
Officials said the network had been active for several years and had developed a system for transporting and distributing drugs. The latest arrests are expected to help investigators uncover more details about the cartel, including its suppliers, distributors and other people connected to the network.
The police action is being seen as an important step in the fight against the growing illegal trade in synthetic drugs. Drug trafficking has become a serious concern for law enforcement agencies, particularly because synthetic drugs can be easily transported and sold through organised networks.
The Kerala government has been increasing its efforts to control drug abuse and trafficking. Police and excise officials have been conducting raids, investigations and awareness programmes as part of the state’s wider anti-drug campaign.
Authorities have warned that the illegal use of synthetic drugs can cause serious physical, mental and social problems. They have also urged the public to report information about drug trafficking and suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies.
The arrest of nine members of the alleged KB Cartel is expected to give investigators important leads in their wider investigation. Police are likely to continue questioning the accused and examining the network to identify other people involved in the illegal supply and distribution of synthetic drugs.
The Operation Thunder arrests highlight the continuing challenge faced by Kerala and other states in tackling organised drug trafficking. Officials have said that stronger enforcement and continued public cooperation will be important to prevent the spread of dangerous synthetic drugs.
