Kohli Equals Tendulkar’s ODI Century Record, Aims for More

Virat Kohli’s remarkable century in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, equaling Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 49 ODI centuries has drawn praise from the cricketing legend himself. On his 35th birthday, Kohli’s unbeaten 101 off 121 balls against South Africa brought him level with Tendulkar, who reached this milestone in his 463rd match, whereas Kohli achieved it in just 289 ODIs.

Tendulkar, in an Instagram post, extended his congratulations and expressed hope that Kohli would break his record in the near future. Kohli’s impressive form has also seen him surge past Kumar Sangakkara in ODI World Cup runs, making him the third-highest scorer in the competition’s history with 1573 runs.

Notably, this tournament marks Kohli’s first time surpassing 500 runs in a World Cup and his first instance of scoring two centuries in a single edition. As the world watches, the pursuit of Sachin’s overall international century record of 100 continues, with Kohli now just 21 tons away from achieving the monumental milestone.
