Lok Sabha Adjourned Amid Opposition Protests

The Lok Sabha was adjourned till 2 p.m. on Tuesday, just minutes after the House resumed at 12 p.m., due to protests by Opposition members. Soon after the session began, several MPs started shouting slogans and creating a disturbance, making it difficult to continue the proceedings. As a result, Lok Sabha Chair P.C. Mohan adjourned the House.

The disruption comes amid rising tensions between the ruling party and the Opposition. Opposition leaders are upset that Rahul Gandhi and some other members were not allowed to speak during the discussion on the Motion of Thanks to the President’s address. They have also objected to the suspension of eight MPs.

In protest, the Opposition is now considering submitting a notice to move a resolution to remove Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla from his post. They claim that the Speaker has been unfair and has not given them enough opportunity to raise their issues in the House.

Meanwhile, both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha are scheduled to continue discussions on the Union Budget on February 10, 2026. However, repeated disruptions could affect the smooth functioning of the sessions.

At the same time, women MPs from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have written to Speaker Om Birla demanding strict action against some Opposition members. They accused them of behaving in an unacceptable manner inside the House. According to them, some MPs crossed into the treasury benches, climbed on tables, and surrounded the Prime Minister’s seat during the protests.

The BJP members described these actions as serious misconduct and urged the Speaker to take the strongest possible steps to maintain discipline and order in Parliament.

The ongoing standoff between the government and the Opposition has led to frequent disruptions, affecting important discussions in the House.
