Lok Sabha Adjourned Amid West Asia Debate Demand

As the Budget Session of Parliament resumed on Monday (March 9, 2026), the Lok Sabha could not take up a resolution seeking the removal of Om Birla. The proceedings were repeatedly adjourned as Opposition members demanded a full discussion on the ongoing crisis in West Asia.

The resolution related to the removal of the Speaker was expected to be taken up during the session. However, the House could not proceed with its planned agenda due to disruptions and protests from Opposition members. They insisted that the government should first allow a detailed debate on the situation in West Asia, which has become a major international concern.

Opposition leaders argued that the crisis in the region could directly affect nearly 10 million Indians who are living and working in different West Asian countries. They said Parliament must discuss the issue in detail to understand its possible impact on Indian citizens, workers, and businesses in the region.

As soon as the session began, Opposition MPs raised slogans and demanded an immediate discussion. Due to the continuous disruptions, the Speaker adjourned the House several times. Because of these interruptions, the resolution regarding the removal of Om Birla could not be taken up for consideration.

Members of the Opposition said their demand was important because many Indian families depend on relatives working in West Asia. They wanted the government to explain the steps being taken to ensure the safety and welfare of Indians living there.

On the other hand, government representatives said the Opposition’s protests were preventing Parliament from carrying out its normal work. They urged members to allow the House to function smoothly so that important matters on the agenda could be discussed properly.

The developments come at a time when the West Asia crisis is drawing global attention, with concerns about regional stability and the safety of foreign nationals living in the region. India has strong economic and diplomatic ties with several countries in West Asia, making the situation particularly important for the government and Parliament.

Due to repeated adjournments, the Lok Sabha was unable to move forward with the scheduled proceedings, leaving the issue of the resolution pending for future discussion.
