Lokayukta Catches Bengaluru Inspector Taking ₹5 Lakh Bribe

In a major anti-corruption operation, the Karnataka Lokayukta Police caught a police inspector red-handed while taking a bribe in Bengaluru on Wednesday.

The accused officer has been identified as Govindaraju, an inspector posted at the KP Agrahara Police Station. He was trapped by Lokayukta officials at the Chamarajpet CAR Grounds around 4.30 pm while accepting money from a complainant.

The action was taken after Mohammed Akbar, a builder, filed a complaint against the officer. Akbar alleged that the inspector had demanded a bribe of ₹5 lakh to help him in a criminal case and provide official favours.

According to the complaint, Akbar had already paid ₹1 lakh to the inspector on January 24, 2026, near Sirsi Circle. The officer then allegedly asked him to pay the remaining ₹4 lakh on Wednesday.

Based on the complaint, the Lokayukta police planned a trap. They gave the marked currency notes to the complainant and closely monitored the meeting. As soon as the inspector accepted the money, the officials caught him on the spot.

The police later seized the cash and began questioning the officer. A case has been registered against him under anti-corruption laws, and further investigation is underway.

Lokayukta officials said they will continue to take strict action against government employees involved in corruption.
