Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva on Friday (January 23, 2026) criticised former U.S. President Donald Trump over his plan to create a new global body called the “Board of Peace.”
Lula accused Trump of trying to set up “a new United Nations” through this proposed organisation. He questioned the need for such a body when the United Nations already exists to handle international peace and conflict issues.
Trump’s plan suggests forming a new global conflict resolution group where countries can become permanent members by paying $1 billion, with Trump himself serving as the chairman.
Several world leaders, including Lula, have not supported or joined the organisation. Many have shown hesitation about the idea and raised concerns about its structure and purpose.
The proposal has sparked debate internationally, with critics saying that global peace efforts should remain under established institutions like the United Nations.
