Madras HC Reserves Order on Vijay Tax Case

The Madras High Court has reserved its order on a case filed by actor Vijay, founder of Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK), challenging a Rs 1.5 crore penalty imposed by the Income Tax Department.

The penalty was related to allegations that Vijay did not disclose his full income during the 2015-16 assessment year.

During the final hearing, Justice Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy reserved his decision. Vijay stated that he had declared an income of Rs 35.42 crore for the financial year 2016-17.

However, the Income Tax Department, based on documents seized during a raid at his residence in 2015, claimed that Vijay had not reported Rs 15 crore earned from the movie “Puli”.

The court’s order is now awaited, which will decide the outcome of the penalty and the actor’s plea.
