Madras HC Warns Against Misusing Criminal Law

The Madras High Court has said that people should stop using criminal \cases
to deal with personal or emotional disputes. The court said that
criminal law should not be used as a tool to settle problems in private
relationships.
Justice B. Pugalendhi made this observation on Wednesday while canceling
a case against a man who was charged after refusing to marry a woman he
had been in a physical relationship with.
The judge said that nowadays, there is a growing trend where people quickly
turn private relationship issues into criminal complaints. He pointed out
that such actions misuse the justice system and create unnecessary pressure
on both sides.
The court also reminded that not every broken relationship or disagreement
should be treated as a crime. It stressed that the criminal justice system
is meant to handle real offenses, not emotional or personal disputes between
adults.
By quashing the trial court proceedings, Justice Pugalendhi urged people to
use the law responsibly and avoid turning personal matters into criminal
cases unless there is clear evidence of crime or harm.
