Manipur Chief Minister Y. Khemchand Singh recently held a meeting with top officials to address rising tensions in the state following a bomb attack that killed two children in Bishnupur district. The government has temporarily banned internet and mobile data services, including broadband, VSATs, and VPNs, in five valley districts for three days.
Singh emphasized his government’s commitment to restoring peace as quickly as possible. He shared updates on social media about the meeting, stating that while tensions are high, officials are working hard to bring stability.
The attack happened late at night when suspected militants threw a bomb at a house in Moirang Tronglaobi, killing a five-year-old boy and a six-month-old girl. Locals responded with protests, burning vehicles and tires near the police station and damaging a temporary outpost.
Security forces have been sent to the area to manage the situation. The internet ban was ordered by Home Commissioner N. Ashok Kumar to prevent misinformation from spreading, according to an official statement.
The banned districts are Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Kakching, and Bishnupur. Officials explained that the move aims to stop false rumors and maintain order during this tense period.
