MIAMI (AP) — Kyle Stowers had two hits, including a triple and a single, and drove in two runs for the Miami Marlins. However, he left the game in the fifth inning due to discomfort in his left hamstring. The Marlins went on to defeat the Los Angeles Angels 12-3.
Griffin Conine hit two home runs, while Javier Sanoja contributed three RBIs with his hits. Otto López also had two infield singles, which was his 46th multihit game this season.
Stowers’ exit came after a big inning for the Marlins. In the fifth, they scored six runs to take a commanding lead. After Stowers left, pinch runner Leo Jimenez entered the game. Sanoja and Conine continued to drive in runs, with Conine adding another homer in the eighth inning.
Michael Petersen earned the win by pitching a scoreless fifth inning. Marlins starter Ryan Gusto pitched four innings, allowing two runs but striking out four batters. The team’s strong offense helped them overcome an early deficit and secure the victory.
The Angels had moments of offense, including a solo homer by José Siri in the third inning, but couldn’t mount a significant comeback. Starter Grayson Rodriguez allowed four runs in his four innings, walking four and striking out eight.
Both teams will move on to new series: the Marlins host Pittsburgh, while the Angels face Texas in their next games.
