LUCKNOW, India (AP) — Mitchell Marsh led Lucknow Super Giants to a thrilling victory over Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League on Friday. Marsh hit an explosive 90 runs off just 38 balls, sending Chennai crashing out of contention for the playoffs.
Nicholas Pooran sealed the win with four consecutive sixes in the final overs, helping Lucknow reach 188-3 and secure a seven-wicket victory. Despite scoring 187-5, Chennai’s total seemed below par as Lucknow’s strong batting performance dominated the game. Kartik Sharma top-scored for Chennai with 71 runs, while Shivam Dube hit an unbeaten 32 in just 16 balls.
Chennai missed a chance to move into the top four playoff positions and dropped to sixth place. Meanwhile, Lucknow, already out of playoff contention, delighted its home crowd with their fourth win in 12 games.
Marsh started the innings with a fiery powerplay, smashing Anshul Kamboj for four sixes and a boundary in one over worth 28 runs. His whirlwind innings included seven sixes and nine boundaries. Josh Inglis supported him with 36 runs, and their partnership of 135 runs put Lucknow firmly on track for victory.
Despite both being dismissed in the same over, Pooran’s four sixes at the end proved decisive. This win lifted Lucknow’s spirits while leaving Chennai’s playoff hopes hanging by a thread.
