Mexico Train Accident Leaves 13 Killed

At least 13 people were killed and 98 others were injured after a passenger train derailed in Mexico, the Mexican Navy said. The accident happened on the Salina Cruz–Coatzacoalcos route of the Interoceanic Corridor of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec. The train was carrying around 250 passengers at the time.

Officials said that 36 injured passengers are still being treated in hospitals, while the others suffered only minor injuries. A total of 139 passengers were reported to be safe and out of danger.

The Mexican Navy launched a large rescue operation, deploying 360 personnel along with ambulances, air support, vehicles and a drone. Authorities have started an investigation to find out what caused the derailment.

The Navy expressed condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and promised full and transparent support to the victims. President Claudia Sheinbaum ordered senior officials to reach the accident site and confirmed that government representatives were instructed to help with relief work and medical care.
