Former Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has signed a two-year deal with Turkish club Trabzonspor on a free transfer. Salah left Liverpool after his contract expired at the end of last season, ending his nine-year stay at the club. His final season saw limited playing time and a public disagreement with then-coach Arne Slot.
Upon arriving in Istanbul, Salah was warmly welcomed by fans and wore a Trabzonspor kit during his introduction. The club confirmed the signing through social media, noting that President Ertugrul Dogan was involved in the deal. Salah will earn £14.5 million annually, including a £8.5 million salary and a £6 million signing fee. He also stands to receive performance-based bonuses each season. Additionally, he will get 20% of merchandise revenue related to his image and a 5% agency fee from his gross earnings.
Salah expressed excitement about the club’s atmosphere and fan support during his introduction. He praised the “incredible” reception in Istanbul, which included 25,000 fans at the event. Salah, who is widely considered one of Liverpool’s greatest players, won seven major trophies during his time with the club, including the Champions League title. He leaves as the Reds’ third-highest goalscorer with 257 goals in 442 appearances.
While he was previously linked with a move to Saudi Arabia, Salah is now set to play for Trabzonspor, who will compete in the Europa League playoffs after finishing third last season. Salah also played a key role in helping Egypt reach the World Cup round of 16, scoring one goal and providing two assists against Argentina.
